about

The writing "O Time" began a few months after the birth of my first daughter. Hours of sleep diminished. We honored the experience of joy and struggle to keep our wee one nourished and thriving. Life became ethereal and ungrounded, yet unbelievably fulfilling. Day or night didn’t matter. Sleepless nights, new parent anxiety, triple feeding, and numerous health challenges fogged our waking hours. The song began to form as a way to look back on life before our child was born, life unfolding in the present and what lie ahead. The song ultimately strayed from the particularities of our newly formed family and became a conversation about memories and the unpredictability of memory's capacity to emancipate and confines us. I’m excited to share this with you.

For you Indy rock aficionados, you’ll be tickled to know that I recorded at Dr. Dog’s studio space shared by Headroom Studios (headroom.studio). Mark Watter engineered the track and tours nationally with lizdelise, a rising alternative rock band. Dear old friend Eitan Brown of Clear Echo (www.clearechosound.com) mastered the track from his home base of Tokyo, Japan. The release of the recording will be accompanied by an in-studio video (www.youtube.com/watch?v=HuimAh90uaA) by Nicholas Thomas. (www.nthomasphotography.com)

**In Memory of Robb Muse**

The release of this song also coincides with the sudden passing of one of my mentors, Robb Muse -- known to me as the chair of BuildaBridge International. May his memory be for a blessing.

lyrics

Verse1
Tick tock, tick tock
Where’d the hands go from the clock
I’m staring at this phone
Like it’s some holy grail unlocked
Oh no oh no

Verse 2
Lying here awake
Sheets are burning at my skin
Sunlight creeping in
Thieving night right out from under me

It’s an early day a-rising
But I’m stuck here on this tap
Go and try to ween me
I am empty; I am shot

Chorus
Time’s a-wasting me
I am stoned on memories
I am high on the certainty
You will be with me for this while
You will be with me, oh time.

Verse 3
Seconds move to minutes
Move to months and then to years
They slip into the ether
Harder to be touched
But some memories like light
Must find a through all that’s tough
Even muscle over all the mire and muck
Just don’t get…

I feel the hands churning
My hair’s grey and going
My buckled belt is choking
On a waistline that is growing

Chorus
Time’s a wasting me
I am stoned on memories
I am high on the certainty
You will be with me for this while
You will be with me, oh time.

Bridge
The hourglass skinny
Grains passing fast
Sun setting slowly and the moon rising up
Again and again, we go again
Again and again, we go again

Interlude

Chorus
Time’s a wasting me
I am stoned on memories
I am high on the certainty
You will be with me for this while
You will be with me, oh time.
